This legendary cake is everything you want in a dessert—tender, buttery, and soaked in a luscious, sweet vanilla-almond glaze. Each slice delivers comfort and indulgence with a soft crumb and a rich finish. It’s the kind of cake that turns a regular evening into a cozy celebration.
Cake:
• 1 cup butter, softened
• 2 cups sugar
• 4 large eggs (room temp)
• 2 tsp vanilla extract
• 3 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 tsp baking powder
• ½ tsp baking soda
• ½ tsp salt
• 1 cup buttermilk
Butter Sauce:
• 1 cup sugar
• ½ cup butter, cubed
• ¼ cup water
• 1½ tsp almond extract
• 1½ tsp vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan.
Cream butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in vanilla.
In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually mix dry ingredients into creamed mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Mix well.
Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 55–70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Cool in pan for 10 minutes. Run a knife around edges and center, then invert onto a wire rack.
Make the Sauce:
8. In a saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and water. Heat gently until butter melts and sugar dissolves. Remove from heat; stir in almond and vanilla extracts.
Finish:
9. Poke holes in the warm cake. Spoon ¼ cup sauce over top. Let absorb. Repeat twice.
10. Poke holes into sides; brush remaining sauce around. Cool completely.
